Bi-Annual Admission Process a Commendable Initiative by UGC: CEGR
Admission twice a year will save students from wasting time, will also increase employment opportunities

New Delhi. There is good news for students in the country. Now you will get a chance to take admission in university and college twice a year. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has given approval to start the admission process twice a year in universities and higher education institutions. According to UGC Chairman Jagdish Kumar, this will increase opportunities for students and make Indian higher education institutions of global standards. The admission process will be started twice in the academic session 2024-25 in July-August and January-February. Ravish Roshan, Director, Centre for Education Growth and Research (CEGR), said, “This is a welcome initiative by the UGC to keep the education system of the country effective and quality. Not only this, now the campus placement drive will also be held twice a year. With this step, while students will get a chance to get admission twice a year, they will get a chance to get employment twice a year.
Director, CEGR says that Indian universities and higher educational institutions will now be allowed to give admissions twice a year on the lines of foreign universities. This will save the time of the students as well as give more opportunities to the students than before. Students who missed admission to a university in the July-August session due to delay in declaration of board exam results, health-related problems or personal reasons can now take admission in January-February as well. Director, CEGR says that admission to universities twice a year will help students maintain motivation, as they did not have to wait for an entire year to get admission if they missed admission in the current session. With twice-a-year admissions, industry people can also conduct their ‘campus’ selection process twice a year, which will improve employment opportunities for graduates. Universities across the world are already following the bi-annual admission system. If Indian higher education institutions adopt the Bi-annual Cycle of Admissions, our higher education institutions can enhance their international collaborations and student exchanges. As a result, our global competitiveness will improve and we will be in line with global educational standards. UGC Chairman Jagdish Kumar also clarified that it will not be mandatory for universities to give admissions twice a year and higher educational institutions that have the necessary infrastructure and teaching faculty can take advantage of this opportunity.
