Russian language will be taught for the first time at UG level in DU: Prof. Yogesh Singh

The 1018th meeting of the Delhi University Academic Council was held on Friday, July 12 in the Council Hall of the University under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh. At the beginning of the meeting, the Vice Chancellor presented a detailed report of various activities of the university. During the Zero Hour, before discussing the agenda during the meeting, the members of the Council discussed many issues in detail and presented their views and suggestions. In response to a question asked by a member on Dr. BR Ambedkar Chair during Zero Hour, the Vice Chancellor said that a proposal for the chair has been sent to the UGC, and Dr. BR Ambedkar Chair will be established as soon as permission is received from there. Prof. Yogesh Singh said that for the first time in DU, Russian program has been included at UG level.
During the Academic Council meeting, the Russian program in BA (Hons) under the Department of Slavonic and Finno-Ugrian Studies, Faculty of Arts was also approved on the basis of UGCF 2022. Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh said that for the first time in DU, Russian program has been included at UG level. He told that earlier it was taught in PG. During the AC meeting, the course curriculum was passed by accepting the recommendations made by the Faculty of Arts in this regard with minor modifications. This program will be implemented from the academic session 2024-2025.
On the teacher appointment process in 12 colleges funded by the Delhi Government, Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh said that all the colleges will be asked to issue advertisements for appointment to the vacancies by 31 July 2024. Taking cognizance of a suggestion from the Academic Council, the Vice Chancellor also approved the nomination of 3 members from the Academic Council in the committee constituted for the seniority of teachers of the University of Delhi and its affiliated colleges. At the beginning of the meeting, DU Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta placed the minutes of the previous meeting before the Academic Council for confirmation and presented the ‘action report’ on the decisions taken in the 1016th and 1017th meetings to the Academic Council. During the meeting, considering the recommendations of the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Academic Council held on June 25, 2024, appropriate amendments were accepted in the courses, teaching methodology and evaluation of various departments and colleges.
